CPR A-330 FRESNO COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE JAIL DIVISION POLICIES AND PROCEDURES TITLE: CPR/STANDARD FIRST AID REFRESHER COURSE NO: A-330 FILE: CPR EFFECTIVE DATE: 06-06-94 REVISED: 07-01-99, 11-01-12 AUTHORITY: Sheriff M. Mims APPROVED BY: Assistant Sheriff T. Gattie REFERENCE: California Code of Regulations, Title 15, Section 172 and Title 22, Sections 100005, et seq; Penal Code Section 6035; Civil Code Section 1714.2; and Health and Safety Code Sections 1799.102 and 1799.106. PURPOSE: The purpose of this policy is to establish and maintain Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Standard First Aid refresher training for all correctional staff. POLICY: It is the policy of the Fresno County Sheriff's Office Jail Division that all correctional staff shall be trained and qualified in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and first responder First Aid. It is the policy of the Fresno County Sheriffs Office Jail Division that all newly hired correctional officers shall attend a basic CPR/Standard First Aid course as part of the Correctional Officer Core Course Enhancement. Refresher training will be provided regularly thereafter. PROCEDURES: I. TRAINING REQUIREMENTS A. All newly hired correctional officers shall receive basic CPR/Standard First Aid training during the Correctional Officer Core Course (Basic Academy) Enhancement. 1. The initial course of instruction shall at a minimum consist of not less than fifteen (15) hours in first aid and six (6) hours in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and be completed within the first year of employment as a correctional officer. The course shall be authorized by the Commission on Peace Officer's Standards and Training (POST) and approved by the Emergency Medical Services (EMS)Authority before being certified through the Standards and Training for Corrections (STC) program. B. All correctional officers shall receive CPR/Standard First Aid Refresher Training thereafter. The Refresher course may be offered yearly by the Training Unit, but in no event shall the training be offered less than once every three (3) years. II. DOCUMENTATION A. It is the responsibility of the Training Unit to ensure and document that all correctional officers are trained in first aid and CPR. The Training Unit shall maintain a record of the names of trainees and the dates on which training courses have been completed for at least three (3) years. B. Such training records shall be made available for inspection by the local EMS agency upon request. Page 2 of 2
