Transportation Officer TRANSPORTATION CLASS OUTLINE INTRODUCTION: Introduction of training unit teaching the days class. Overview of the days training and course objectives. Final objective: for the officers to become better equipped to deal with a rapidly evolving situation they may encounter during a transportation detail. MINDSET: Lecture / power point presentation on acquiring and keeping a proper attitude and a vigilant state of readiness while performing ones duties as an officer. FIREARMS: Live fire along with an introduction to positional and modified positions of shooting. - Dry fire exercises - Quarterly qualification - Positional shooting bloc - Barricade shooting - Positional shooting around and from underneath a vehicleThe positions of fire utilizing the vehicles are as follows. - Shooting from inside a vehicle SIMMUNTITIONS: Isolation drills and scenario training. - Isolation drills will consist of two officers engaging one another in a simulated “duel”. POLICY & PROCEDURE REVIEW / LEGAL AUTHORITY: Lecture / Power Point presentation on the following Fresno County Sheriff's Office policy’s and legal authority concerning Correctional Transportation Officers. - Policy and Procedure - Legal Authority WORKING LUNCH PRE-PLANNING & COORDINATION: Lecture / Power Point presentation on the importance of pre- planning transportation details prior to leaving the facility and upon returning. The following topics to be discussed are as follows: - I/M Intel work-up: charges, history, disabilities, current status, etc. - Destination intel: Route / Alternate routes - Proper I/M placement in vehicles - Pre Vehicle inspection and search - Pre vehicle maintenance check - Escort of I/M from vehicle to destination and back ESCAPE DEBRIEF: COMMUNICATIONS / DISPATCH: Lecture / Power Point on the proper procedures to convey traffic via vehicle / portable radio. The following topics to be discussed: MINDSET: Lecture / power point presentation on acquiring and keeping a proper attitude and a vigilant state of readiness while operating a motor vehicle.
