PURPOSE:
The purpose of this policy is to establish and maintain a consistent method for the handling
of all concealed weapon permits, identification cards, and badges issued by the Fresno
County Sheriffs Office and discovered in the possession of an arrestee at the time of intake
into the Fresno County Jail.
POLICY:
It is the policy of the Fresno County Sheriffs Office Jail Division that all concealed weapon
permits, identification cards, and badges issued by the Fresno County Sheriffs Office
discovered in the possession of an arrestee shall be confiscated at the time of booking
intake.
It is the policy of the Fresno County Sheriffs Office Jail Division that all such items
confiscated shall be turned over to the Watch Commander and then forwarded directly
through the chain of command. The final disposition as to loss of the privilege in carrying
an identification card, badge, or concealed weapon permit issued by the Fresno County
Sheriffs Office shall be determined by the Sheriff.
PROCEDURES:
I. CONCEALED WEAPON PERMITS, BADGES, AND OFFICIAL ID CARDS
DISCOVERED AT INTAKE
A. When an officer discovers that an arrestee is in possession of a concealed
weapon permit, identification card, or badge issued by the Fresno County
Sheriffs Office, they shall confiscate the item and notify the on-duty Booking
Sergeant.

B. The officer discovering the item shall write an incident report and forward the
report and the item to the Booking Sergeant.
C. The Booking Sergeant shall notify and forward a copy of the report and all
confiscated items to the Watch Commander.
D. The Watch Commander shall forward the copy of the report and the
confiscated items to the Jail Operations Bureau Commander.
II. FINAL DISPOSITION
The final disposition of the items shall be determined by the Sheriff.
III. CONCEALED WEAPON PERMITS, IDENTIFICATION CARDS AND BADGES
FOUND AT THE TIME OF INTAKE NOT ISSUED FROM FRESNO COUNTY
A. The discovering officer shall review the information written on all found
concealed weapon permits not issued by Fresno County Sheriffs Office,
confiscate if so directed on the permit, and forward as per this procedure.
B. If identification cards or badges not issued by Fresno County Sheriffs Office
are found and there is no written direction for confiscation or notification,they
shall be handled as personal property, and notification made to the Jail
Operations Bureau Commander.
