PURPOSE:
The purpose of this policy is to provide a clothing standard for all personnel attending, or
instructing, training programs sponsored by the Fresno County Sheriff's Office, whether
at the Training Facility, or at other training locations.
POLICY:
It is the policy of the Fresno County Sheriffs Office Jail Division that all personnel who
attend training courses and seminars shall assume the responsibility for presenting a
professional appearance which is representative of the stature and prestige of the
Sheriff's Office.
PROCEDURES:
I. ACCEPTABLE ATTIRE FOR TRAINING
A. All personnel attending training courses and seminars shall wear
appropriate professional attire unless otherwise specified by the
Training Unit or training presenter.
B. All employees are expected to exercise sound judgment in their choice
of clothing and to present a neat, clean, and appropriate appearance at
all times when representing the Sheriff's Office.
C. The following dress code shall be adhered to by instructors and
students participating in training courses/seminars:
1. Slacks or casual pants (khakis, capris). Blue jeans are permitted,
however, they and all pants must be free of frays, rips and tears.

2. Dresses, skirts or other appropriate attire may be worn, however,
these should not be excessively short or tight.
3. Shirts must have a collar and sleeves (e.g., pullover polo shirts or
standard button-front shirts). Sweaters, blouses and turtlenecks
are also acceptable.
4. Shoes or boots which coordinate the clothing. Heels shall not
exceed 3 inches in height.
D. Exceptions to the dress code requirements will be made for courses
which involve physical activity or require specific clothing. Course
announcements should stipulate when the dress code policy is not in
effect for specific sessions.
II. UNACCEPTABLE CLOTHING DURING TRAINING
A. The following items shall not be worn while on duty-
1. Pants that are dirty, overly worn-out, faded, or in need of repair.
2. Leisure or exercise attire such as yoga pants, sweatshirts,
sweatpants, or shorts (unless authorized for physical training).
3. T-shirts and tank tops (unless worn under another blouse, shirt,
jacket, or dress).
4. Visible undergarments.
5. Military fatigues.
6. Baseball caps.
7. Flip-flops or beach wear.
B. Uniforms shall not be worn to training unless authorized as part of the
training advisory.
III. VIOLATIONS OF THE DRESS CODE
A. Employees who are not in compliance with the dress code will be
required to submit a memo to the Training Sergeant.
1. Documentation will be sent to the employee's supervisor.

2. Depending on the circumstances, the employee may be required
to change their clothing, or asked to leave and not permitted to
participate in the course.
B. Supervising and management personnel shall take appropriate action
to enforce this policy.
